A Light-Weight, Differentiable Fur Structure of High Quality
Traditional fur rendering methods present two main challenges: strand models are highly detailed but computationally expensive, while shell models are more efficient but visually less convincing. Strand models are unsuitable for mobile devices due to their complexity, and shell models, though faster, struggle to accurately replicate fur.
To address these issues, we propose a technique utilizing differentiable rendering to optimize shell models, resulting in more realistic fur effects on mobile devices.
We demonstrate that our fur model can be rendered and animated with high quality, even on an iPhone.
